I was noodling around in Vista when I think I have discovered how to get LockOn to look great in it.

Installation:

Prior to installing, right click the setup.exe, go to properties, compatibility tab, and check the boxes for both the Run as Administrator and Run in Compatibility Mode for XP-SP2. Then install by clicking the same setup.exe. (Do this for all other programs for LockOn as well such as Loman, Modman, etc...)

Once it has installed and all of your mods are installed, go the LockOn folder on your hard drive (normally in the C:/Program Files/ Ubisoft/Eagle Dynamics/Lock On/) and find the LockOn.exe file. Right click the LockOn.exe file, go to properties, compatibility tab, and again for this, check the boxes for Run as Administrator, Run in Compatibility for XP-SP2 and also check the box next to "Disable Desktop Composition". This last setting changes the Vista Aero scheme to the Vista Basic mode in effect disabling Aero from Vista. Once you are done flying, Vista will revert back to normal, and then the next time you go to play LockOn, it will change back automatically for you. This has fixed the disappearing cockpit and other graphic problems I had on the nVidia card system with nVidia chipset I have.

Hope this helps everyone out there.

Hahaha! That's a great commercial.

Unfortunately due to nearly all computers now coming with Vista only on them,  we might want to make a Vista install guide as I can see many rocky roads ahead. Every day it appears to be harder and harder to find a new good computer solution with XP on it. So I do believe people will be coming here wondering how to get it to work on Vista more and more and they basically are being limited in their OS choice due to name brands such as Dell, HP, SonyVaio, etc... limiting their products to the currently available Microsoft Operating System named Vista.

By the way, this also fixed my 3DSMax viewports while in Vista, so take note Kato! This is an easy and automatic method of disabling the Aero Visual Scheme from Vista temporarily while you are either playing your favorite game or running your favorite application that does not play well with Vista; and then having Vista automatically revert back to the Aero Theme when you exit the application or game. Please note, you will get a small blue icon in your taskbar when Aero is disabled, and this icon will disappear when it is reactivated. Also turning off the sidebar prior to gaming (right click the space and turn off) helps greatly in Vista.

If for any reason you notice that the Aero scheme does not come back after closing what you were doing, hit the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys, go to Task Manager, then Processes Tab, and check to see if your application or game is still shown in the list, which in effect is "hanging" the system and preventing Aero from coming back automatically. In this case highlite the game or application you were using and click the "End Process" button at the bottom. This should fix it for you.

Interestingly, Dell just announced that they are going to go back to allow customers to choose XP in new machines if they want to instead of Vista.

...shortly followed by Microsoft saying that no manufacturers will be able to load new machines with XP after Jan 2008!! ...DENIED!!

Yeah 1.12b patch is for Vista, although some users are still having problems getting LOMAC to run on Vista.

Thanks for the help man. I'll admit that I haven't taken my copy for a test run on my laptop yet but installation went off without a hitch! I'll see how it works in the field later on.
