Here are screenshots that can be used as wallpapers, taken from the actual VFAT 2008 track flown live on December 14th, 2008. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed flying the demo in honor of the Blue Angels during the A-4F Skyhawk II era as flown at Fleetweek, with the San Francisco landmarks in the background.
The images are all contained in a 24Mb .rar compressed file that can be downloaded by clicking HERE The live streaming video from the demo flown on Dec. 14th can be viewed by right-clicking HERE and open in a new window. Our thanks goes out to Interoute Telecommunications Service Solutions for the live streaming solution for VFAT 2008, and in particular to PSV-Manu for arranging this.
Also, check out our A-4F Skyhawk II Virtual Blue Angels music video HERE.

Very nice!!!
@Talon, any chance you have them in 1920x1200 as well? (1.6 aspect ratio)?
Interesting runway texture in that one shot of the landing rollout? Is that some sort of Navy thing?

Unfortunately I don't Lawndart, the maximum resolution of my 37" display is 1920x1080. You could try adding a border of sorts in Photoshop to keep the image at 1:1 but bring the overall size to 1900x1200 which is the resolution I think you are looking for.
That interesting texture is our airfield representation of the carrier landing area with the Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System (FLOLS) that Kato modeled for us as we "Call the Ball" on our simulated carrier practice landing approaches.
Thanks LD.

Not challenge ( sounds more like what you're doing , hehe ), but sure, most anytime it could be fun. I know that some of our pilots have been doing simulated carrier traps and having a good time with that.
Currently, as we speak I have been spending most all of my free time learning DCS: Blackshark
It would be nice if one day we could all participate in a multiplayer Blackshark day scenario of missions. I know the "young bucs" who have vacations and such are going to be up to speed a lot sooner than us more seasoned folks that don't get to spend too much time on these sims, but it could be fun nonetheless.
I never imagined I would enjoy this sim as much as I am. I think it is because it has a little of the Falcon4 "clickable cockpit" to it "feel".

Sound like fun, and I have to be honest, I haven't even tried BS yet. Just been slammed with work and barely had enough time for VFAT. I'm not quite as excited about it either, since the chopper doesn't really interest me as much - although at some point I'll pick it up. Gotta get with the program and learn DCS (hehe), as it is the wave of the future...
Meanwhile, I get enough "flipping switches" in the cockpit at work. (They don't call me the "switch bitch" for nothing).

I think Talon has modded the runway in the pic above.
Here is the real Pensacola runway: ![]() And here's the VBA mod runway: ![]() From ground level - landing in the carrier box: ![]() Edited by Kato - 27 December 2008 at 13:35 |

I'll look into posting some 1920x1200 resolution later - that's what I run on my monitor. |
